Stop At: Krka National Park
Krka is the national park in Croatia known for its large number of waterfalls. It is named after the river Krka which is part of the park. The National Park is located in central Dalmatia.
The River Krka has seven travertine waterfalls and its beauty is a natural karst phenomenon.
Tufa (also called travertine) is the term for calcium carbonate that is formed in rivers when minerals from the water settle onto different types of surfaces. It is which is recommended to be visited in spring and summer, as you can experience its full splendor during those periods.
“Skradinski buk” waterfall is the longest tufa barrier on the Krka River and also the longest tufa barrier in Europe. It is one of the most unusual and beautiful landscapes in Krka National Park.
In addition to creating conditions for the preservation and development of biodiversity, forests contribute to a complete experience of the landscape, in an area of contrasts between bare rock, the flow of the river, and the sea. The area of the Park is located at the transition from the evergreen Mediterranean vegetation zone to the sub-Mediterranean deciduous zone and abounds in varied forest communities.
